EJW DecoratorsWallpapering and painting, Hull

Painter and decorator on Wincolmlee, Hull

Wallpaper, hung neat and perfect.

Justin, often with his assistant Abby, papers and paints homes across Hull: feature walls, whole rooms, and the long drops on halls, stairs and landings.

The pattern should run straight through every join.

Wallpapering is the job reviewers mention most. Most of the skill is in the joins: drops hung plumb, the pattern matched at every seam, and clean cuts at the ceiling, skirting and stairs.

  1. Straight match

The pattern sits level across every join. Each drop is cut so the next one lines up exactly beside it.

  2. Half-drop match

Every other drop starts half a repeat lower, so the motifs step diagonally across the wall. It usually takes more paper.

  3. Free match

Nothing to line up, so less waste, but every stripe has to hang dead plumb. Any lean shows straight away.

Paper the stairwell, before Justin does.

Halls, stairs and landings have the longest drops in the house and the most joins on show. Pick the walls, a paper and the woodwork, watch it go up, and send Justin the job to quote.

front bedroom

Tap a wall on the drawing, or pick a paper and it goes up the stairs.

1. Which walls?
2. Which paper?
3. The woodwork

Your job, written up for Justin, appears here once you've picked a wall and a paper.

Papering first. Painting too.

Wallpaper first, because that is what most people ask Justin for. Painting, ceilings and woodwork too, from one wall to the whole house.

“Very neat and tidy,” and on the stairs too.

“Justin came to paint and decorate in my daughter's converted garage. He quoted all work from start to finish, including remedial work where needed. Arrived right on cue, and completed an amazing amount of work in one day. The place looks fantastic due to his hard work and attention to detail. Will definitely use his services again. 10/10.”

How a job runs, from the quote to the clear-up

  1. Justin comes to quote

He looks at the job, prices it from start to finish and says which paint and products suit it.

“Came to quote and advised me which paint and products would be best for the job and why”
    Tracy Norman
  2. A start date

Reviewers describe starting from a week to a few weeks after the quote.

“Was able to start the job a week later and came with his assistant Abby.”
    Mark Ashton
  3. Justin and Abby do the work

Papering, emulsion and gloss, room by room, with the finishing off done neatly.

“They worked long days and were very respectful, polite and professional.”
    Tracy Norman
  4. Cleared away

Dust sheets up and tools away, at the end of each day and at the end of the job.

    “Everything tidied away nightly too.”
    Alison Sibley

Before you call

Will Justin come and look before quoting?

Yes. Reviewers describe Justin coming out to quote, pricing the whole job from start to finish (including any remedial work) and advising which paint and products suit it.

Who will be working in my house?

Justin does the work himself, and on many jobs his assistant Abby works with him. Reviewers describe them both as friendly, polite and respectful of the house.

Can you hang two different papers in one job?

Yes. One reviewer had the living room and dining room walls papered in two different papers in a single visit. Tell Justin which walls get which paper when he comes to quote.

I've already bought my paper. Is that OK?

Mention it when you call. It helps to check every roll has the same batch number and to keep the label, which shows the pattern match and repeat. Justin can tell you whether you have enough.

How soon can you start?

It depends on the diary. Reviewers describe starting from about a week to a few weeks after the quote. Call or text to ask about your dates.

Do you tidy up?

Reviewers say everything was tidied away every night on a two-week job, and that the room was cleaned and cleared at the end.

Got a paper in mind? Ring Justin.
